Eric: "AFTER THE FACT".................
Some years ago - over 35 in fact - when I had just gotten my
NYSE ticket and was assigned to a branch office (in this case,
Pasadena, CA)...I learned something that fits in this context:
I needed a quote on an o-t-c stock and had the girl on the PBX
call trading in L.A. After a bit, it came back thusly: XYZ Corp.
20 - 22 WO...I quickly asked one of the other brokers what WO meant.
Says he, WO means "work out" (no current firm bid or asked)...BUT
he continued, it REALLY MEANS - "WE'RE OUT - HOW 'BOUT YOU?"
Best,
Don

And they are wrong 80% of the time.

I never read stock news, Analyst's reports, or company reports. They are external to Price. Trades profit or lose on the basis of price movement not attempts to manipulate by the brokers and media.

As for listening to other ideas on market and direction from the "writers", I would rather be my own counsel. When you give up the independence of a trader to let the thoughts of others invade your mind then they become part of the decision process on each trade. " I should buy/sell because X said such and such, and I wanted a good reason".

Guess the DOW or S&P is good cocktail party banner, But what will that have to do with the stocks you trade? Most days, I don't even know where indices are. IF my stocks follow market then their price movement shows me.

Maybe people should not look for pros outside themselves but spend effort and time honing their tools.

Aren't analysts great! They can always tell you the right thing to do, after the fact!
