A small correction here. Five Ethernet cards running at 10 MB/sec consumes 50 MB/sec. One SCSI subsystem which supports up to six hard drives would take up 40 MB/sec. That sort of occupancy (75%) on a single PCI bus is definitely going to cause performance problems.

This is nonsense, any way you spin it. Celeron with a small L2 cache on a 66 MHz bus. An overloaded PCI bus. Crippled I/O. All on a $10,000 server. It might be state of the art for AMD's standards, but it makes no sense to people who care about performance and quality. Maybe Compaq gets to shave about $1000 off the price, but that's about it. (And don't bother telling me that $1000 is going to make one iota of a difference in a low-volume, cost-insensitive, performance-hungry, and RAS-demanding server market.)

Dell is probably looking at Compaq's crippled server announcement, trying to stifle the laughter. That's cool; I also own a position in DELL stock as well.
