I absolutely agree w/ you. Airtouch is not supposed to be the retailer of G*. It's supposed to wholesale to them. That's what was said at the conf call a few months ago, and that seems to be the message on the Airtouch G* website. But I'm getting impatient at the lack of announcements of who will be the retailers, and wonder what AirTouch was thinking about with this 877-satphone fiasco.

It would be a disaster if the only US retailers are company's like "Airstar" and O'Gara.

Well, if the launch tonight is a failure ATSS and G* will have a few more months to get their act together.

AT&T's TDMA cellular system is not compatible with any existing GlobalStar CDMA or GSM phones.

Of course, if they were to decide to switch to a CDMA system, that would rather change things. Don't hold your breath.

Bell Atlantic, on the other hand, has an extensive 800 MHz CDMA network. A friend who works in one of their retail outlets says he has heard rumors of their selling a new satellite phone soon.
