I have read on various boards on SI about certain frequent posters who are being sued for hundreds of millions for defamation of the company and officers of the company. As I said in earlier posts, I think this is the tip of the iceberg. More damage is done on these message boards than could ever be imagined. Some companies are tired of the damage and are fighting back.
Fraud on the Internet is illegal. Suggestions and insinuations about a company engaged in illegal or criminal activity is fraud unless you can prove that you are correct.
I know of 3 separate cases going on now against posters on SI and Yahoo for defamation and slander.
I wonder if it is legal to have a paid basher on a US Nasdaq stock message board. Is it legal in the US to be paid to try to bring down the price of a stock by posting on a message board?
