DJ Goldman Sachs Sees Continued Demand For Y2K Services

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Demand for year 2000 computer bug services remains strong, and a potential decline in corporate spending in this area later this year will be limited, according to Goldman Sachs & Co. technology analysts.

Spending on information-technology service in 2000 could exceed trends because the removal of the Y2K problem will free resources for stalled projects, the analysts said in a conference call Wednesday. IT spending next year also will benefit from a healthy world-wide economy and heavy spending on Internet-related projects.....

.... Growth of the carrier segment of the data networking industry is "white hot," Goldman's analysts said. Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) will have strong carrier growth while also holding onto its strong position in the enterprise segment of the data networking space. Goldman expects Cisco to gain market share as smaller companies that have been acquired face "integration issues."
