What you've seen elsewhere ... can you tell me how quickly the coral recolonizes? What does a ten-year-old scar look like? Are there lotsa little spots of living coral, or am I being optimistic? A meadow is a start anyway. It ain't a forest, conceded; and it won't be one again for centuries. And I sure wouldn't feel particularly blessed or exalted swimming among the wreckage left by my species-mates. I can only hope that as the reefs get more threatened, bigger resources will be called into play to interdict the strip miners.
