The Last Mile thread has discussed wireless alternatives a couple of times at least, but
the discussion there has been on technical merits, not from the G&K perspective.
There are a number of potential winners in the area.

The wideband wireless companies clearly have cost advantages over (or under?) the
ILEC's/RBOC's. Thus, they qualify as potential paradigm shifters.

I'd like to see further discussion of broadband/wideband wireless.

One company that had a recent success is Winstar (WCII), which signed up Colgate-Palmolive, and today announced access to Boston Properties' buildings. WCII's model is to go after large corporates in major
metropolitan areas, put an antenna on top of the building to a cental receiver/transmitter
which is connected to a tier 1 backbone. Still a development company. The question is
whether they can fill their fiber sufficiently to start covering some huge upfront costs.

A list of wireless suppliers follows (in Europe). Re your no-gorillas point. Seems there is a "network effect" in place here, since the equipment is not standardized. Thus, there may be barriers to entry once one company gains a dominant position.

In any case, they may be candidates for king, if I understand our use of the term here--or at least we may find a Dell.
