I posted this on Pink's thread in response to someone who was concerned that SI will give up a poster's identity under court order. He asked for comments so here they are:

Why should any company, on the Internet or elsewhere, have the right or obligation to allow people to do actionable things under the cloak of anonymity? If an anonymous poster here libels or slanders you in a post, do you believe you should not have the right to pursue them in court?

If people call me an idiot online (which they have), I couldn't care less. Let them call me a criminal and I will look into legal action.

SI would be a much nicer place if anonymity weren't permitted at all. I'm not saying addresses or phone numbers should be available, but people expect (and do) way too much because they think they can get away with anything.

I have made more than 8000 posts on SI in two years, hyping and bashing my picks, with my full name attached. Never had a problem because I stay within the law and SI's Terms of Use.

What is is so hard about that? It's called living by society's rules, the essential precondition to any organized society.
