Perhaps because there is some institutional buy interest today. I find it interesting that on lower volume days, when there is buy interest, the market makers tend to fade the price down to collect shares at a lower price, and when there is some sell interest they seem to try to push the price up a bit to sell at a higher price. Just an off the cuff observation. On high volume days this doesn't work for them.
