How Not to be Traced:

First of all, the most clever of aliases is a common name.
"WebDrone" is obvious, but "Bill Smith" is a really clever alias. A red herring.

Next, hire a college student to get your SI membership. Just show up at any campus computer cluster with cash in hand, and have them sign you up with their credit card. Lots of college students have them. My, how times have changed. The student doesn't know you, and is going to move a zillion times in the next few years. Good luck finding him, fat chance he will remember you!

Finally, post from public access locations. Different libraries, and so forth. There is absolutely no connection between you and the IP address you are requesting from. Or have friends in other countries post for you.

This is the sort of thing a real criminal would do, or a citizen from a country that does not enjoy our right to free speech.

Obviously there are tons of loopholes. I still believe that with some more direct form of accountability, people would tend to observe the same niceties and inhibitions that they would at a cocktail party (some idiots and obnoxious people but few direct altercations).

And I dislike the general idea that people engaged in a real-world venture like stock analysis should have an anonymous cloak to hide behind.

Just one point of view. Thanks for the interesting exchange.
