Kabila going to Lusaka Saturday -Congo officials KINSHASA, July 8 (Reuters) - President Laurent Kabila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo will attend a summit meeting in Lusaka on Saturday at which a peace agreement to end the war in his country is due to be signed, Congolese officials said. Kabila travelled to Harare on Thursday to discuss the ceasefire plan with his ally, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. It was not clear whether he would go directly from the Zimbabwean capital to the summit in the Zambian capital. Defence and foreign ministers from the states involved signed a draft ceasefire agreement in Lusaka on Wednesday. Late on Thursday, Congo state television broadcast a statement on the peace deal apparently recorded by Kabila before he left for Harare. Kabila said copies of the peace agreement would be made available to the public at 8 p.m. (1900 GMT) on Friday at the presidential offices. "Given the gravity of the situation, I submit (the document) to your examination so that you may give your judgment democratically," he added. A ceasefire is due to come into effect within 24 hours of the agreement being signed in Lusaka. The war began in August 1998, when Tutsi-led forces backed by Rwanda and Uganda rose up against Kabila's government. Zimbabwe, Namibia and Angola have sent troops and military equipment to support Kabila. © 1999 Reuters Limited. All rights reserved.
