<<I am also buying a small generator (I figure that's good to have anyway), with a battery backup (again - good to have for the PC). >>

After the labor day storm, my brother got a generator, but I think that's overkill.

I took the cheaper route and bought an AC/DC power inverter for $40. Allows me to use car battery for my PC.

I can run a Mac SE-30 for 1 hour on a motorcycle battery that I have setup in a plastic Scooby-Doo lunchbox (for portability).

The same setup also runs my cellphone (without the inverter. Use lighter recepticle with alligator clips instead) for two weeks without shutting down. May actually be more than two weeks since I eventually turned it off.

I figure I can setup my car as a generator/battery charging station.

Also have an old alternator that I've been wanting to hook up to an exercise bike. Workout and generate power too! Don't even need heat since I'll be generating that on the bike while watching TV in the morning!
