BUSINESS WIRE - July 08, 1999 12:26
REDMOND, Wash., Jul 8, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE via COMTEX) -- Just in time for the release of the Fourth of July blockbuster "Wild Wild West" starring Will Smith and Kevin Kline, ThingWorld.com today announced the availability of the "Wild Wild West" ThingScreensaver(TM) on MSN.com. Available today at msn.com, visitors to MSN can download the new screensaver featuring original interactive content and music from the music video and movie soundtrack.

The "Wild Wild West" ThingScreenSaver provides consumers and fans of the movie soundtrack and music video with engaging multimedia experiences and collectibles from the popular video. The download can be accessed from the front page of MSN.com and in the Entertainment and Computing channels of the web site, which received over 22 million unique visitors in May.

In addition, Microsoft will add ThingViewer(TM), the plug-in required to view Things, to Windows(R) Update. ThingViewer is also automatically distributed with the any ThingScreenSaver. The "Wild Wild West" ThingScreenSaver is the first in a series, each developed by ThingWorld.com, that Microsoft will distribute in Windows Update and other Microsoft properties as a result of a strategic marketing and technology distribution relationship between the two companies. Currently, Streaming Media Things are available at the WindowsMedia.com audio/video portal site (www.windowsmedia.com). Additional content and technology offerings are planned for 1999.

"Microsoft's relationship with ThingWorld.com allows us to expand our content offerings to include technologies that appeal to professionals and consumers alike," said Will Poole, senior director, Streaming Media Division at Microsoft. "ThingWorld.com's technologies are a great addition to the exciting offerings for WindowsMedia.com visitors."

With Things -- collectible, interactive multimedia -- content owners create and distribute exciting and engaging content that contains direct links ("click-backs") to a specific destination such as a Web site, commerce offering or membership registration. Fans are attracted to the interactive branded content, and save it for reuse in a variety of ways, including: personal web pages, screensavers, email and desktop. Each piece of content is designed to increase customer interaction, merchandise sales or traffic.

The "Wild Wild West" music video premiered on MTV on May 14. The album, distributed by Interscope Records, is now available in stores. The movie "Wild Wild West", starring Will Smith, Selma Hayek and Kevin Kline, was released on June 30 to theaters nationwide.
