Women are able to earn enough money to support themselves and even a few children,
without a man, and they can tell a bad husband to take a hike.

A few women can. For the vast majority, though, divorce is an economic disaster for the woman. Because the courts have discarded the "helpless women need alimony for the rest of their lives" concept but society hasn't replaced it with "women have every bit as much need as men to earn full pay to support their families" most of my female clients are screwed after divorce. Even with child support, assuming they get it, their lifestyles go down dramatically while the mens' generally go up, at least until they remarry and try to support a second family on top of their support payments.
