You can buy the RYDEX URSA fund which has the inverse performance of the S&P 500. Symbol RYURX. Fund is no load but carries a hefty minimum investment of $25,000. No problem to purchase in an IRA as I have done it before.

Sgt: If you are concerned about this market you might consider Japanese issues... since Japan is currently countercyclical with the US.....lots ot choice from, many ADRs, and stocks such as Sony, Hitachi, Nippon Tel, Japan Air Lines, etc....

Others such as JEQ and JOF (funds)

One of the thread member resides in Japan and may be able to offer help...
