Long Wireless Equipment The Wireless Scorecards Reason for Report: Update on Contract Activity July 8, 1999 Highlights: · Our wireless scorecards track the characteristics of wireless infrastructure contracts that have been publicly announced in the last month. In June, 29 contracts were announced with a value of $2.3 billion. · The level of contract activity for the expansion of cellular/PCS networks has increased. About 77% of cellular/PCS awards are for the expansion of existing networks versus 64% for the 18 months ended June 1998. · About 58% of these expansion orders have been for GSM networks, mostly in Europe, which has benefited Ericsson. Expansion orders for TDMA and CDMA systems have increased by 131% and 52% respectively. Ericsson and Lucent have won the most TDMA contracts, while Lucent and Nortel lead in CDMA. · Overall, the value of TDMA contracts has increased by 41% over the last 18 months. The value of GSM and CDMA contracts declined by 1% and 6% respectively during the same time period, · We have begun tracking cellular/PCS contracts and trials that support high-speed data services, including GPRS (General Packet Data Services), HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and Third Generation Wireless (3G) technologies. Over the last 12 months, 15% of the cellular/PCS contract awards included support for high-speed data services · Ericsson continues to lead in the value of its announced wireless contracts (28% of the aggregate dollar value over the last 18 months), followed by Lucent (17%), Nokia (15%), Nortel (14%) and Motorola (9%). Lucent has shown the largest gain in market share due primarily to recent expansion contracts in the U.S.
