Tradition, yes. But it is an imperiled trend. Indians are making a big mistake by continuing to hoard gold while the rest of the countries are selling their reserves.

Agreed. But then, India LOVES to live in the past! No wonder that it is still dwelling on the 16th and 17th century practices of the West when they conquered more and more land. The presence of so many ardent believers of "Akhand Bhaarat" (both inside and outside India -- mostly fanatics, but there are some "romantics" that entertain such ideas too) is ample proof.

These days, countries are interested only in expanding their spheres of influence, not in expanding their borders. But try telling that to the "Hindutva" advocates and their supporters!
