Just look at the sports men choose and the sports women choose and you can see all about voluntary submission to pain. My son actually LIKED the contact of football. He would come home bruised and sore from a game and I would ask him (my feminine side coming out <g>) "why do you keep doing this?" and he would answer "Dad, I LOVE it."

Of course, in my youth I was much the same -- once hurt my toe playing soccer and kept playing -- it was very painful but that was just part of the experience. I was disappointed when the coach pulled me and my parents insisted I go to the emergency room to get it X-rayed. Sure enough, it was broken and I had played on it broken for about 15 minutes.

Of course, there is an argument to be made that women voluntarily accept pain even more than men do. If not, every family would be limited to a single child! (I can say that, since I was there for the births of our kids. I would NEVER have gone through that a second time.)
