"... will do anything if there's a perceived nickel in it."

A nickel??! - hey, you don't need a nickel. A penny is enough if you trade in big enough lots, often enough.

It's computers and online discount trading that have done this to us. In 1995 i had 8 trades all year. Got a computer in fall '96 and made maybe fourty trades by New Year's. Counted up the trades in summer '97 and there were 400 or so already that year. About half on Denison, den ... i had discovered daily patterns, and was trading it back and forth with limit orders for two cents gross before commissions. Made money too, all in all ... made a nickel a share once, lost four cents a share another time. But the novelty wore off mostly ... there do come flashbacks, though, so i follow the Chief's Realtime thread and Ed's Momo Puppies like a vulture looking for a rat, time permitting.
