johnd - there are several sites where institutional money flows are tracked on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. However, you can see it for yourself, if you watch LII and see who the buyers/sellers are, and where do the T&S go off at.

Further, traders are pretty sophisticated these days - if the institutions were stepping in, many traders would rush in ahead. There are tons of folks plugged into what institutions do, and they try to trade ahead of them. It would be extremely difficult to do any "stealth" buying/selling for any appreciable amounts, without that information leaking out, and traders jumping on it. Further, if you consider that most trading in MSFT is done by institutions (about 75%), and the volume has been notably low, you can figure that its not because all the retail guys are sitting it out (they don't constitute enough of number to affect that much of the volume).

Whatever, one thing is absolutely true, as Teflon says: MSFT will run up toward earnings. The question is, will it sell off before that, and by how much. Bottom line, unless you are a trader, these questions don't matter much - buy, hold, grow rich (OK, at least over the next 2-3 years<g>)

Jonhd,
Institutional money came in two weeks ago, and they just buy up the price at the end of the market , and it just moved up slowly, and once they had accumulated enough shares at low price , the volume will explode, and the price starts quantum jump. It did not just happen by itself that the price went up a little everyday, and most of the gain happened in the last 30 minutes of the market !!!
