Well, the small IP's haven't even seen the real blitz from AT&T yet on broadband. They haven't bought all those cable companies for nothing. It may take some time, I figure 2-3 years for fairly good market penetration and then look out. I wouldn't go back to 56k for any amount of monetary savings. Once the big guys can give you broadband at a competitive price, the small providers might as well give it up. Heck, they'll end up putting it all on the same cable; telephone, TV, internet access and at some point we'll just pay by the megahertz! Sorry, but existing telephone wiring just can't handle the DSL as well as coaxial cable.

I'm probably wrong. I still can't figure out why all those nitwits put up with SOL....., I mean AOL.

What we need is wave division multiplexed single mode fiber to each room in the house. Now that's bandwidth!
