STOCKWATCH: Winbond sharply higher on firmer DRAM prices

TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - Winbond Electronics Corp shares were sharply higher,
extending yesterday's solid gains on a major rebound in prices of dynamic
random access memory microchips, dealers said.
Irrespective of whether the price firmness can prove sustainable for long,
the lead supported a significant bounce among DRAM stocks which have been under
pressure in recent weeks, they said.
At 10:40 am, Winbond was limit-up 2.80 at 43.50 twd on volume of 72.88 mln
shares. Mosel Vitelic was also limit-up 1.70 at 26.50 on 40.40 mln shares.
The electronics sector was up 0.79 pct.
The weighted index was up 36.24 points at 8,628.67, off a high of 8,663. 06,
on turnover of 92.30 bln twd.
The Taiwan dollar was at 32.295 to the U.S. dollar compared with the
previous close of 32.285.
