Just for grins, I did some math on the "missing barrels" (heh-heh-heh!).

Let's say there are 300,000,000 barrels of "missing" oil out there in storage somewhere.

A barrel of oil occupies 5.6146 cubic feet

A mile is 5280 feet.

So our volume is:

(300,000,000 bbl * 5.6146 ft cubed/bbl)/(5280ft*5280ft/square mile) =

a 1 square mile, 60+ foot high "puddle" of oil. Picture a 1 square mile area near where you live, say with a itty-bitty football stadium, filled to a height of 6 stories with oil.

Yeah, I can see how an organization could NOT KNOW if such a puddle exists, especially when it's their job to know :-o
