Abbaji was angry. The octogenarian father of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had heard that army chief Pervez Musharraf was beginning to flex his muscles, but he did not expect him to try and scuttle his son's attempt to improve ties with India. Here was the general, in front of an army of scribes drooling for sound bites, punching the peace balloon even before Prime Minister Vajpayee had set foot on Pakistani soil. "There's no harm in launching a bus service," said Musharraf. "But there'll be no change in Pakistan's stand on Kashmir."
