Andy -

My guess is that there aren't a lot of problems with Wintel

Wrongo!

A directory of desktop software applications (largely WinTel, but also including Unix, Commodore, Tandy, Mac & others) lists 3056 vendors & 21,000 products.

Naturally these numbers don't count the tens (hundreds?) of thousands of custom applications written in FoxPro, Clipper, dBase II, III & IV, Revelation, Alpha 4, 5, & 6, Paradox, Quattro, Lotus 1-2-3 & dozens of other application building environments.

And then there's the once popular CPM based accounting package which has been declared dead & cast loose by its creator five plus years ago. There is no support or phone. Yet the creator is still receiving commission checks from the forms suppliers! CPM now! CPMTel?
