Maybe none of these will be required if Messina gets rolling.
Palladium futures soared on the New York Mercantile Exchange amid heavy dealer buying tied to
concern Russia will not make large shipments of the metal this year.

While some market participants said Russia continues to make unannounced sales of the industrial
metal to Western automobile and jewelry manufacturers, many investors continue to note the
absence of long-term shipping contracts.

Investors also are concerned Russia will maintain a duty on metals exports that has halted most
shipments since May. Russia accounts for nearly three-fourths of the world's palladium supply.

September palladium rose $9.85 to $331 an ounce. October platinum rose $3.80 to $352.20 an
ounce.
