i can see where a goodly number of respondents felt that as SI members, they had no choice but to take what was given to them, so they might as well try to at least provide positive input in the hope of influencing the next version.

That is my case. I think you have characterized the situation well. I have made positive comments about the beta version but they should not be interpreted as a vote for beta vs classic. Indeed it is "ok I have to live with this so why not make the best of it and try to make it work".

If this thread is at all representative the 90 percent figure is not accurate. Users are trying to help so perhaps 90 percent of the members would try to make constructive criticism.

If the heart and sole of SI is the message boards then why change the message board format with less than convincing evidence?

I find it somewhat unbelievable that I am in a 10 percent minority.

The beta site may be technically superior to the Classic site. I have not found any significant improvement that relates to the message boards. It seems like Go2net does not have a feel for the heart and sole of SI.

I, for one, have made it clear that I like the new design and greatly prefer it to the classic easter-egg-pastel design. I was frustrated a few days ago with the beta process when I perceived (incorrectly, as it turned out) that complaints and requests to "go back to the old way" were being given more weight than compliments on the good design used for the new site.

I particularly like the way the message is given greater prominence in this design with its clear and uncluttered message space.

I also appreciate the better integration of SI's discussions with other information sources -- including the editorial content of what used to be called StockSite, and especially the IQC charts. I share some complaints. I miss the prior method of generating comparative charts. I would like to see IQC's chart customization options transferred over here. But I see it as a positive change even if those items aren't addressed.

Managing a beta process is a difficult task, but SI seems to be doing a good job of it.
