What would happen, as an example, if someone bought a gorilla at ridiculous valuations and within a year or so a new, discontinuous innovation comes along and displaces the gorilla? --Mike Buckley

Mike, it would be so major that we would be able to see it coming. This is not Dell getting knocked off, this is something so big that it would take time to build. (And even Dell was obvious to me at the time).
