Has anyone compared NEWZ to Newshound or other services? With the backing of Knight Ridder and being relatively inexpensive, Newshound looks interesting, although I don't know how good the user interface is.

I have been working with the Newsedge product for a couple of months and I am concerned with thier ability to deliver properly filtered useful information to my organization. Does anyone out there have first hand experience with working with Newsedge? What have been your experiences.

BURLINGTON, Mass., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- NewsEdge Corporation (Nasdaq: NEWZ), the leading independent provider of global news and current awareness solutions, today announced that it has added 100 new, European- focused NewsEdge Review(TM) topics. NewsEdge Review topics are concise daily briefings that surface the most important industry-specific, general business and company news. With the addition of the new European topics, NewsEdge now offers more than 1,500 categories of news designed to help business people read less and know more. The new topics, designed specifically to surface Europe-related content and sources, are now available.

"Global customers require global news. Our new European topics add the detailed and precise granularity that gets the right news to the right global customers at the right time," said Cliff Pollan, NewsEdge President and COO. "We are extending the NewsEdge Refinery(TM) to address the needs of our global customer base and adding extra depth and variety, in this case with an emphasis on Europe."

"These new European-focused topics are an excellent addition to the service for a company like ours with global operations," said Catherine Orsini, Business Intelligence group director for France's Bull SA. "NewsEdge has always provided robust global content, but the addition of these new topics enhances that even further."

The new 100 European topics are organized by industry and by country. Tightly focused subjects include the industry-specific, such as European pharmaceuticals and French telecommunications; general business such as European economic indicators and top European business news; and company- specific news about top European organizations.

The NewsEdge Refinery process is unique in the industry. In a two-step process, it employs both cutting-edge technology and expert human editorial review to select from tens of thousands of news stories each business day. In the first step of the news-filtering process, the Refinery technology filters tens of thousands of news stories daily, examining content and context, and placing each into one or more of 1,500 different NewsEdge Review topics.

In the second step, NewsEdge's industry-expert editors refine and cross- check story selections by checking their topic assignments, eliminating duplicates and redundancies, and prioritizing the news for fast, easy consumption. NewsEdge customers subscribe to those topics of greatest importance to them, and receive concise daily news briefings, ensuring knowledge of the top news in a particular topic or set of topics.
