For once Mike I disagree..

I think Oracle is a pretty badly run company, with results that are inconsistent.

I think they are surfing on their "internet" halo effect, but I think, as much as I dislike IBM, that UDB(DB2) will become the new standard, for the fortune 500 companies on the net.

Oracle is NOT a gorilla, IMO. It cannot set standards, it cannot extract price increases easily, competition is ferocious with MSFT on the low-middle end, and IBM on the high-end.

Ellison is a moron, an arrrogant one at that, who is as unfocused as Michael Cowpland of Corel... NC's, etc remember =everyone ?

Barriers to entry none --> It all proprietary adaptation of SQL, relatively easy for a data architect to convert & move over..

Standards setter --> Not !
