RIDING THE RAILS: German railroad operator Deutsche Bahn is planning to deploy GSM-based radio equipment as part of a sweeping overhaul of its internal communications network. Mannesmann Arcor [MNNSY], the German telecom carrier, will plan and construct the network that will replace Deutsche Bahn's current analog system. The project calls for 2,800 base stations to be installed along 16,000 miles of track by 2002. But Deutsche Bahn's move carries larger significance in that it is the leading operator in one of Europe's biggest railroad markets. European countries have been seeking an integrated digital standard for railway communications centered on a dedicated frequency band. A key component of this standard is GSM-R, a version of GSM developed for railroads. The Deutsche Bahn deployment is the largest GSM-R implementation seen to date. Mannesmann Arcor said it will serve as general contractor on the project, but no equipment vendor was designated, although Ericsson [ERICY] and Siemens [SMAWY] are likely candidates.

Elmatador: I agree with your comments, it has been the consensus that I have found with a few others. Sven-Christer was set-up as the fall guy and the old hands will step back in to take the glory.

It's just wait and see time, for how bad the Q2 results are...we'll probably take another little pasting then.

Regards,
Mika

Patsy--In Soccer, it's known as the "Hospital Pass." When things around you are looking really tough, you just pass the ball to Leroy and let him get creamed. Politics inside ERICY must be abysmal. They lie so much to the outside world. They must have a lying back-stabbing culture inside this company.
