TODAY'S NEWS, TODAY'S TALK

** YAHOO INC
The tone on the thread of Yahoo (YHOO) consisted of shareholders
scratching their heads and chart watchers searching patterns for
clues to the near-term direction of the Web portal giant's share
price. "Looking at the charts, it appears that the Net stocks are
experiencing lower highs and lower lows," was trader2000's
technical interpretation of the what lies ahead. "This 'run-up'
before earnings wasn't a run-up at all," added trader2000. "All
Net stocks recovered like YHOO. This is it," he exclaimed, "it
will go down now for two weeks. History has proven it all the time
with YHOO. Given that, people will sell and sell short - it is
self-fulfilling at this point." See full message at

** MINDSPRING
MindSpring Enterprises (MSPG) jumped up today. News that the
company cancelled a meeting next week with analysts created a stir
on its Raging Bull message thread about a possible merger. "A
combination with Excite@Home (ATHM) or Lycos (LCOS) or Microsoft
(MSFT) would be HUGE for us!" declared rydlar in post #954 this
afternoon. "Now, what kind of combination are we talking about?"
rydlar asked. "Being taken over, I can't see that, unless
Microsoft wants to expand the MSN. Portal services offered through
Lycos would provide services for customers, and Excite@Home is
surely th future of broadband. Any way you put it, I like it!" See

** SOLECTRON
Elsewhere in technology, DESERTDOC told riokbeetle in note #24 he
was baffled as to why there were so few messages for Solectron
(SLR). "Buying continues in SLR," DESERTDOC said, "it is solidly
in the 60's trading range. I know from personal experience (my
work a few years ago) that this is an outstanding company. I mean
a company that turns out QUALITY for the best price, so it is a
top choice to manufacture electronic boards for leading companies.
I can sleep at night with this one." See full message at

** SDL, INC
Meanwhile, the semiconductor sector rebounded sharply as the
Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, which is up 38% year-to-date,
tacked on another 2% to a record high. Intel (INTC) paced the
commodity chip producers. Novellus (NVLS) charged ahead to lead
the capital equipment providers, while SDLI (SDLI) was a star
among performance and specialty chip makers. "Just picked up some
SDLI on this pull back from the low 60s to complement a UNPH
position I have been long for awhile," Dowjobber told savvy
chip-stock investor kalicokat in note #85 last Tuesday. "My chart
is indicating SDLI is consolidating and I like the top and bottom
line growth of this stock. I get the Gilder Tech report, and will
try to keep you and the board advised if Saint George mentions
SDLI in his reports." See full message at

HOT QUOTE OF THE DAY

** "NDB would not want to issue..."
"Common sense tells me that NDB would not want to issue their
earnings announcement on Friday AFTER HOURS. After hours would
force the market to wait an entire weekend before reacting to the
news.." Read and Post your thoughts at
