K., there was an article last week in Cincinnati (or maybe Kentucky) Post with a feed from a news service about energy deregulation. The conclusion of the article was that coal, not ngas, would benefit most in a totally deregulated environment for electricity. That is, if an energy producer anywhere in the lower 48 could serve any customer anywhere via the national grid, then customers would usually go with the lowest cost producers, "dirty" coal-burners such as midwestern-based Cinergy and American Electric Power. The article even quoted stats from DOE that energy production at coal-fired energy plants had increased 8% in the four years since energy deregulation began, while gas fired generating plants decreased 5% over the same period. I'd sure like to hear some rebuttal arguments.

Ken, Good question- IMO gas drilling is not keeping up with ramping North American demand. Now I just met with a few folks from Calgary on Friday. They say that once pipeline capacity is expanded, that western Canadian gas will take up some of the slack-which is good. But is anyone aware of pipeline constuction in western Canada say into west Coast US markets?

The eastern Canadian pipeline being built will carry up to 500 mmcf of natural gas I believe when finished....IMO we'll see higher prices this fall for natural gas. Now how to play that- maybe a mixture of E&P's, and gas transporters?

Sincerely,

Doug F.
