Hi Frank, Thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking here a long time. This thread has been very helpful to me in getting myself into first gear on the "Last mile" situation. I may never get up to speed on the subject but I find it interesting and who knows, it may even be profitable.

As you might suspect from my previous posts on ATHM, I am highly pissed off about AOL and the local phone monopolies crying for government help to regulate the cable companies. As a small business owner, I personally fear and hate government regulations and actions. Before regulation should even be considered, the cable companies should be allowed to recapture their investment capital. IMO, AOL just wants to throw a monkey wrench into the delicate, smooth running, <g> ATHM machinery. <:{

Meanwhile copper and coax may be getting end ran by last mile fiber. A friend of mine and who used to work for me is now working for a private company called Vialight Inc. Vialight is installing last mile fiber to the door of all houses in development communities.
Apparently Vialight sells the concept to developers who can then sell use the fact they have fiber to the door to sell the houses, apartments or office spaces. My friend lives in one of these houses. I have not talked to him in detail about this but he did send me a brochure from Vialight you can see most of this on the web page.

This development is happening in the Seattle area. I read on this thread about to the door fiber was also being done back east.

For anyone interested in more; vialight.com
