My point is that marginal people are marginal for a reason. Low IQ, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, mentally ill, damaged by exposure to alcohol or cocaine while in utero, brain development stunted due to neglect or damaged by lead or beatings or sexual molestation. Not "their fault," maybe, but what can be done? They'll always have difficulty with employment, always have difficulty staying on top of things like bank accounts and rent payments and utility bills, always be liable to be victimized. Whereas, if you were the victim of a devastating earthquake, and lost everything, it wouldn't take you long to get back to where you are now, because you have the ability. You are more fortunate than they are, but don't kid yourself that it's your money that makes you luckier, it's your brain.
