Compaq Names Robert V. Napier Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 1999--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today named Robert V. Napier to the position of Senior Vice President, Information Management, and Chief Information Officer (CIO). Napier, who brings to Compaq over 25 years experience as a senior IT executive in complex organizations, will continue Compaq's leadership in the innovative use of information technology and will support its aggressive customer-focused e-commerce and supply chain infrastructure development. Napier joins Compaq from Mariner Post-Acute Network where he served as senior vice president and CIO.

"Bob Napier brings a wealth of experience in information systems management to Compaq, and we're delighted to see him join our senior management team," said Ben Rosen, Chairman and acting Chief Executive Officer. Previously Napier was CIO of Delphi Automotive Systems, a $30 billion General Motors business sector with global operations. During his 25 year information technology career, he has held CIO positions at Lucent Technologies Inc., AT&T Global Business Communications Systems, and Lockheed Information Management Services.
