Hi Sam, total semiconductor revenue refers to all functional pieces used in the designs, ex mechanical stuff like screws, chassis, circuit boards. The number is not simply the digital baseband IC's, which in general get all the attention but are only a fraction of total semiconductor revenues. As for the source of the data, to simplify a long explaination, I'll say the data comes from a couple non-public-domain sources. One you can purchase from InStat (from a 5/99 report on Cellular/PCS). I can't provide a link since it's neither free nor cheap (their main site is at www.instat.com). If the fact that you cant access it discredits my post in your mind, that's OK by me. Those that have seen my posts for a number of years will assure you, however, that I don't post lies or manipulative information, and make every attempt to provide supporting links when there are some. I even took the extra step of deriving % figures so I protect the confidentiality of the raw revenue forcasts in the report.
