tiger paw, and cpq's crappy earnings come from increased productivity, too ;-) oh, and muei's losses. oops, they did squeek a profit this q.

i do believe that total collapses in dd and dram have helped out a great deal here.

here is the point, though. units are up 20%. sales are up 1%. that tells you something very important about the elasticity of demand. if they don't drop box prices (the reason for the drops is not relevant), they will sell many fewer boxes. if you don't believe this, why don't the pc companies just keep prices flat and rake in all that extra profit? keep productivity increases for their bottom line? i'm talking generally. dell is an exception to the general pc market. but, their growth is slowing. just like high end demand is slowing relative to supply.

why? folks aren't paying up for boxes. how does that impact rdram?

that is the question.
