RESEARCH ALERT-ING Barings starts Cymer

CHICAGO, July 9 (Reuters) - ING Barings said Friday it initiated research coverage of
Cymer Inc., a supplier of excimer laser illumination sources.

-- ING Barings says in a report Cymer shares are trading at 23.1 times its 2000 earnings
per share estimate of $1.09, on the low side of its historical price-earnings multiple.

-- Estimates the company will earn $0.12 per share in 1999 compared with $0.09 a share
in 1998.

-- ''With our forecast of a rapid pickup in earnings, the stock is selling well below its
projected short- and longer-term earnings growth rate,'' ING Barings analyst Peter Wolff
said in the report. ''From that perspective as well, we believe there is a good probability
that the stock will move up significantly from here.''

-- Shares of San Diego-based Cymer were up 1-2/16 at 26-5/16.
