The Northern Miner, at one time, published a map of the
Quebec ground staked by the diamond companies. Some diamonds
were found years ago and there ws a bit of a run up. Then
nothing more came of it and except for a few people who've kept
an eye on the play, it has largely been forgotten. Of course,
a new find would bring the whole thing instantly back to life.
The exploration around Wawa, Ont. has been more active ever
since SPQ found diamonds in an outcrop and a prospector panned
three industrial diamonds of good size. There is a long history
of individual diamonds turning up. Goes back before the turn
of the century. Around WWII some diamonds turned up in a drill
core. I was regarded as a fluke and wasn't followed up. There
definitely are diamonds in both Ontario and Quebec but
nothing commercial so far. Every so often the Wawa area
causes a bit of a rush.Lot of juniors have broken the bank
looking. KPG was the last one I remember. Got kimberlite okay
but no diamonds. Check the Northern Miner back issues. Of course
there may be changes because some companies may have let go
of their claims.
