Brian,

Keep in mind that if you were to take the "study" at face value, you'd also need to believe that 80% of the world's population lives in poverty ("sub-standard housing") and thus are not likely candidates for ownership of very much...

Brian,

For a more "up to date" source, worldvillage.org

There is no longer any sort of scholarly atrribution to even suggest that the numbers are meaningful.

Note that the "village" is now presumed to be made up of 1000 people, and they are still presumed to have only 1 computer. The sources of information are vague...

Another tidbit:

Under "life in Town":

335 of the adults are illiterate.

But under "Education/Computers":

200 people can not read.

Hard to take something seriously when the data is inconsistent, or contradicts prior lists. (Computer ownership dropped from 1% to 1/10% ????

OT** (THE SYMBOL WE USE WHEN THE DISCUSSION DOES NOT INVOLVE AMAT)

BK,

PLEASE, IN THE FUTURE, DO NOT POST ANY DATA THAT CAN BE DISSECTED AND/OR CONSTRUED IN MORE THAN ONE MANNER. PLEASE STICK TO POSTING DATA THAT IS 100% ACCURATE AND IRREFUTABLE.

EXAMPLES OF THE 100% PURE DATA TO WHICH I AM REFERING INCLUDE: GAAP EARNINGS, FOUNDRY CAPACITY STATISTIC, 'SPOT' SDRAM PRICING, MARKET SHARE (IN ETCH, ION IMPLANT, CVD, CMP, ETC.), WAFER THROUGHPUT, COST OF OWNERSHIP, BACKLOG, BOOKINGS, AND INDUSTRY BOOK:BILL.

THE STATISTICS OF WHICH I SPEAK ARE CLEARLY LESS CONTROVERSIAL BECAUSE OF THEIR ACCURACY. THEY ARE FAR MORE SCIENTIFIC THAN THE AMORPHOUS MUSINGS YOU SO IRRESPONSIBLY POSTED FROM THAT STANFORD COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDY.

P.S., I actually liked your original post. It is probably directionally correct at the very least ... much like EPS, B:B, Capacity Util, etc.
