Don't look now, but a new risk has crept into Internet investing that many Web-crazy stock buyers haven't even thought to worry about yet: rising financial leverage. That's right, debt. Hmmm, the Internet business is looking more like steelmaking every day.
When the Net stocks were hitting all-time highs this past spring, several big issuers did what companies love to do whenever their stocks fly to the moon: They raised bucketloads of money in the capital markets - in this case by selling billions of dollars in convertible debt to the public.
