AMD does not need these things. That is Intel's job as market leader.
Currently Intel makes the vast majority of profits and revenue from a single chip design, the Pentium II/III. AMD want 25% of the market with 25% of the revenue. That will only happen when they can fully compete with the the Pentium II/III and no other.
