Jim - <Prototypes of Merced still aren't out, and it looks like Intel's next-generation processor may slip until the third or fourth quarter of next year.>

I've responded several times to this on the Intel thread. Barrett said in April that Merced samples would be out Q3. Everyone seems to be confusing tapeout with samples, big difference. Also, if you read the bottom of the Cnet article, the only named source indicates that Merced is on schedule. Also, I have no reason to believe that there is any significant slip in Merced. This is so much slow news day balderdash.

Jim, Merced Slips per Tom - Well Tom is just using on a news.com article which is suspect to say the least. My favorite news.com quote and your going to love this is as follows:

Intel desktop share to slip
By Kurt Oeler

Quote from the article:

"In a PC market enthralled by sub-$1,000 machines, low-cost competitors Advanced Micro Devices and National Semiconductor subsidiary Cyrix gain an advantage over the giant Intel because AMD's K6 and Cyrix's MediaGX chips cost as much as 25 percent less than Intel products."

"Advanced Micro Devices and National Semiconductor subsidiary Cyrix gain an advantage"? Ain't that a hoot Jim?

Hey Jim, how does it feel gettin your pockets picked?
