Here is a reprint of my post of June 11th.
Desperate - I think so too.

HP Storage
I attended a HP storage systems product presentation yesterday and left very
unimpressed. Their flagship product, the MC256, is basically a repackaged Hitachi
7700E. It is about the same size, capacity, performance of the EMC high end boxes but
without the flexibility. When asked about attachment to AS/400 or Stratus boxes the
answer was "We will look into that". The HP SAN initiative is called the Storage Node
Manager and is targeted for third quarter availability. It does not seem very robust and
again does not have the EMC scope of support. Much was made about HP's
participation in the SNAI (sp). I asked if HP was a member of the FiberAlliance and
was greeted with silence.

The same is true of the HP connection components, Surestore E switch F16, Surestore
E hub L10, Surestore E bridge FC 4/2. Mixed platforms and OS's through these
components is not supported.

Much was made about the EMC single point(s) of failure. All channel interfaces and
device interfaces are singly connected to one of two internal buses (Hitachi duplexes all
bus connections). The EMC has a single write cache (Hitachi duplexes the write cache).
Hitachi uses dual ported disk drives, EMC single ports. HP indicates these single points
of failure prevent EMC from achieving "59" initiative, 99.95% uptime. In reality I believe
the units are equal in reliability.

These are just my notes and opinions.
