Gilat , Microsoft mull venture -paper
JERUSALEM, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Israel's Gilat Satellite Networks and Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) are in talks to establish a joint venture, the Ha'aretz newspaper reported on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for Gilat declined to comment on the report.

Ha'aretz said the deal would help Gilat and Microsoft to compete more effectively against a recently formed alliance between America Online (NYSE:AOL - news) and Hughes Electronics Corp, a subsidiary of General Motors (NYSE:GM - news).

The newspaper said Gilat and Hughes each control about 40 percent of the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) market for data communication via satellite.

Ha'aretz did not provide more details about the talks or the potential joint venture.
