Back to an ISP discussion. Will Allen get one?

The Wired World already includes InterNAP (http://www.internap.com/), a network services company that provides internet services to companies. (The page you're reading now traveled part-way to you through their network which connects GNET's servers to the internet.)

It strikes me that a consumer ISP would also fit in well. If it had infrastructure in the same areas where Vulcan's cable properties are located, it could be used for both broadband offerings and IP-based interactive TV on those systems. A consumer ISP could also offer service over DSL in the many areas where Vulcan doesn't offer cable service.

A dial-up service, however, would seem less compelling as part of the Wired World. They seem to be building toward a speed-centic system. Perhaps it would be useful to have a "starter system" to feed users into broadband, and to provide away-from-home access, but I'm not sure the cost would be worth it.
