Ron Reece, please let me know if your reply to me was done under the conditions that you were short of time, had to run, and you didn't take the time to think before you typed. If so, then next time reply with a 'gotta run, catch you later and will debunk you royal". But then something ok did come as a result of your post, that is, if you like short true stories about Uncle Walter. You remember Walter Cronkite, the retired good mannered tv news man on a network that told us "...and thats the way it is...". It was someplace in Europe, a hotel nestled between the outdoor coffee shops where Walter was staying along with a supporting crew of persons that helped put together each days newscast. Among these picture and sound technicians was the Editor that collected the days events and selected that which appeared on the paper that would be read to the nation of viewers by Walter. Also present were three men that were always a part of the production of the paper that held todays news, but they were never seened by the viewers or acknowledged to the public as helping to create the news broadcast. A poll was taken back then, Most Trusted Person In America, and yep Walter Cronkite was voted number one, as since then refered to as everyone's own Uncle Walter. But back to the story at the outdoor coffee shop. Uncle Walter was at a table with those three men as they waited for the camera sound and editor to return from a fact finding trip. As they drank very good European coffee they spoke of the current events happening the part of the world that they are now visiting for an on the spot news report. One of the three men put out a question for all to give their own opinion on, just a way to get a feel ahead of time to how each saw current events being influenced by historic events. Now Uncle Walter was not only The Man, but he was a Star, the person everyone saw on the tv screeen as most trusted man the world by Amerians. So each of those three men looked at Walter as the man in charge, head of the round table. Just simple deferenc to the person most important in the group. Walter being a kind and modest man understood his position, and without any boasting or presenting any preeminent airs Walter took the lead as to be the first to speak, as one would let the learned one speak first so the others could listen and learn. Walter set down his coffee cup, opened his mouth and at the same time looked down at the table and saw that the paper with the news on it was not there. Walter shifted his eyes around the table, still with his mouth open ready to tell others whats happening. After ten seconds Walter realized that no paper was there for him, and then realized that these three men were all educated well knowned scholars with advanced degrees from the best schools with years of experience under their belts. These were the ones who supplied the news to the Editor, who did the edit to make the paper that Walter read to the majority of Americans and foreigners. Walter eyes dropped to his coffee cup and spoke out loud for the three men to all hear "What do you want me to say ?" The most trusted man in America, a parrot. So Ron who supplies your cue cards ? Seems today you yourself made up the lines yourself, as you didn't have enought time to copy from a book. But wait, I'am sorry Ron, you did as I asked you to. Thank you. I asked you not to repeat the history tales from your books, so you simple put down what was facts as per your understanding. Which was to replace book text with a ole49'er from Californai gold days to speak for you, or one could say parrot Ron spoke 49'er's words of past heard. doug
