I don't understand the Canada ruling.

Does it mean that any ISP is allowed to use the cable lines? I thought we could not have hundreds of ISPs tied up to the cable internet system without slowing it to a crawl. What is the Canadian definition of a "Cable Internet ISP"?

I think Canada is going to have lots of trouble. The second the government becomes involved it is death for the cable businesses. They are demanding rigid costs from the cable businesses for a system that is still a research project. It sounds like Canada will establish fixed rates out of this and the cable businesses will choke to death the first time they need more money. You will have to go to the politicians and explain the technical details behind why you want more money. Then politicans, people are elected to make rates cheap and have no technical background, will decide to give you $.10 for each $1.00 you asked for. I don't know. Maybe the whole Canadian system is different from ours and it will work.

I would like to know how they intend to host hundreds, perhaps thousands, of ISPs. Anybody know?
