F,

I'm sure this is a new machine, I remember talking with Rude about laptops some time ago and he was using one of the larger format thin laptops. DEC never built a 3 pound machine, the first one out of the gate was Sony with it's 505 model, followed by Toshiba with it's 3000 series. Everyone is getting into this niche now, IBM just came out with a 3 pound machine with a Celeron processor. The PC rags have raved about the machine, stating it is the first one of it's kind with a really good keyboard, but then IBM is known for this. However, the IBM box has very short battery life with the standard battery, not much over an hour, although IBM claims that shipping models will get up to two hours. Toshiba's model gets 3 hours, so it is superior in this respect.

Regards,
John
